SMART (Science Meets Art)

Urban Youth Impact’s SMART (Science Meets Art) program takes science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics one step further. Students enrolled in The Leadership Academy sign-up to participate in their areas of interest and commit to remaining in the class for one semester. Students can choose from over 20 electives in music, cooking, the arts, sciences, and more. Additionally, it teaches students to transform their community through social enterprise and commerce.

WHY IT MATTERS

Participation in the arts and sciences produces numerous benefits that have been well documented over the years. Children who participate in the arts and sciences reap benefits that range from academic improvements to greater self-esteem. Students learn the importance of diligence in practice, how to think creatively and express themselves. In spite of the many benefits derived from arts participation, funding for arts-related and creative education has decreased dramatically over the past decade. The decline has been most rapid in poorer, urban schools. Thus, Urban Youth Impact's desire to expose and develop the student's passions.
