Impact Garden

A new initiative has sprouted up this summer.  Our Impact Garden has taken root and is ready to grow with our kids this school year.

UYI's Impact Garden is finalist in Burpee Home Gardens "I Can Grow" Youth Award!  Read more here.

We hope you'll watch our garden grow!

Each elementary class from The Leadership Academy will spend an enhancement period in the garden each week.  Students will partner with outside volunteers and parents involved in our Family Empowerment Program to tend the garden – from planting and weeding to watering and harvesting.  The garden will provide numerous lessons for our kids.  Basic gardening skills, spiritual lessons about sowing and reaping, the importance of nutritious food selections – the possible applications of the garden are almost limitless.

Our older students will provide critical support for its operations.  The teens will build support systems for plants as they grow and create a business plan that will determine the efficacy of selling produce in a variety of settings.

The Impact Garden was made possible through generous funding and in-kind labor donated by Royal Poinciana Chapel.  Additional support for the garden was provided by Home Depot.
