Urban Youth Impact Leadership Academy Helps Students Succeed in Every Way
by providing academic, social/emotional, physical and spiritual enrichment through the students’ formative years.
Urban Youth Impact's arts program gives students the opportunity to explore and develop their talents.
Students involved in the arts program have performed at The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, community events, local churches, and The Leadership Academy's end of the year program.
Founded in 1997, Urban Youth Impact serves the Tamarind Avenue corridor and surrounding area in West Palm Beach. The area has notoriously high crime rates – almost three times the national average for all crime types. 32% of youth living in the community are not expected to graduate from high school, two-thirds live below the poverty level, and it is more likely that youth from our community will go to jail than graduate high school.Through its programs, UYI seeks to reverse troubling trends and fulfill its mission by offering programs designed to develop critical life-skills that result in less juvenile crime, fewer teen pregnancies, less substance abuse, less child abuse/domestic violence, and fewer school drop-outs.
As the year draws to a close, I want to share some glimpses into how your giving makes a real difference in the lives of those we serve.
Cece completed her high school diploma. What may seem a simple accomplishment took a lot of work for this young lady, but she worked hard for it and has pride in her success.
After the parent retreat in October, Charmaine wrote, “I must say, as for me, the weekend was well spent nourishing the soul, spirit, mind and body...the lesson I learned is to have FAITH in God and He will do the rest.”
Dreaming big, Hannah, a first grader, wrote, “When I grow up, I want to be a firefighter because I want to help people and take care of them.” Just a few days later, Hannah and her class got to visit West Palm Beach Fire/Rescue!
Mario sent his thanks after he worked in our Summer Work Program. Mario said, “My communication skills are improving a lot as I interact with the kids and staff. I also learned about responsibility, organization, and most importantly goal making.“
We need your support to continue our life-changing work! I humbly ask for your year-end support this year.
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy New Year!
P.S.—Your contribution at any level will make a difference.
We rely on your giving to continue our important work.
