2013 Annual Report

Dear Friend,

It is our pleasure to share with you Urban Youth Impact’s 2013 Annual Report.  In it you will read stories, see statistics and have the opportunity to review our financial position.  In everything, we hope you’ll be encouraged to see how your giving, prayers, and volunteer hours are working to change lives here in the inner city of West Palm Beach.  We are truly grateful for your support.  Without it, we couldn’t do what we do!

Thank you for making our 12th Annual Christmas Store a success!

Christmas Store

Thank you from The Wester Family

My family and I would like to thank you for the most remarkable experience at the UYI Christmas Store. This was my first year with TLA and the Urban Youth Impact family. I have heard great things about the organization at church. For years Pastor Tom talked about how my church home Christ Fellowship supports Urban Youth Impact. I never knew what Urban Youth had to offer my family.  It could not have come at a better time.  You see the last two years have been trying for my family financially and spiritually. The moment I stepped on the TLA campus I knew God was there; from the warm smiles of the young lady that took care of my Zoe to the women that prayed for a job for my husband (by the way that prayer was answered).

Nowhere to go!

The doorbell rang this morning and there stood a young woman and her two small children.  They had nowhere to go.  Her name was Stephanie and she explained that she just came from the shelter down the street from UYI, but they had no room for her and her children.  She asked if she could use our phone to call the police.  She did not know what else to do.

In the meantime, Mr. Bill was in a meeting in his office, but heard a child crying.  A child’s cry is all it took for him to leave his meeting and investigate.   He sat and talked with Stephanie to learn her story.  The police arrived and also talked with Stephanie hoping they could do something to help her.

Goodbye UYI, Hello Motherhood

By Amarja, Urban Youth Impact Team Leader

I am a strong believer that there are seasons in life for everything. My season at Urban Youth Impact has been short lived but thanks be to God I have been amazed by the beautiful relationships that have blossomed with both the staff and kids since I started working here as a team leader earlier this year. I have been welcomed with open arms and have fallen in love with the kids, each of whom are extremely special and precious.

Miracles Happen-The email

Bill’s Story - How to Hire an Assistant Without Even Trying

I was in the process of trying to hire an Executive Assistant.  Reviewing application after application; interviewing and then following up with emails.  At some point, things became confusing and scattered or maybe it was me that became confused.

I wanted to make sure that I followed up and thanked those who had interviewed with us.  Thinking that I was on top of things, I gave one of my staff three names to thank through email.  What I didn’t realize was that one of those names was Elayna Monts who I thought I had interviewed.

When she received the email she kindly respond back and said, “thank you for your kind words, but we never met”... at that point it was obvious how much I needed an Executive Assistant!  I emailed her back and said, “as you can see Elayna I'm in desperate need of an assistance, when can you come in for an interview?”

As this scenario unfolded I began to think it was just a coincidence.  Or was it divine intervention? When we met, it was clear that God had a plan for her to serve at UYI!

Elayna’s Story - A Job and Blind Faith

After nearly 20 years of working in the private sector I made the decision to leave the corporate world and return to my first love of working with a purpose.  I was no longer happy working in the private sector world.  Though I have directed ministries through the years and done what I thought I was being led to do…I no longer wanted my life divided in two…half of me being that Corporate Executive Assistant and the other half of me the volunteer who believes that we are our brothers’ keeper.  After much prayer, I knew the time had come to merge the two.  I would take the information I gained from a nearly 30 year career and use it to walk in the steps of my calling…to help others.

Now mind you, that’s all I knew.  I had no idea what God was going to do with me, but I knew this…when I prayed about it I was led to…

Isa 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
